Fall is here!!!

Fall is a season that, more so than others, speaks warmly of home, family, and friends. And while so many of the foods we associate with fall are available year-around, there’s always the possibility that fall’s bounty in the markets is truly more seasonal. Thank goodness I’ve never seen fresh cranberries in the summer!

If you’ll indulge me, I’d like to share some of my fall favorites, the culinary equivalent of pulling out those favorite fall clothes. They taste of the season, fill the kitchen with the aromas of the season, and really lend themselves to family gatherings; or maybe just a late morning cup of coffee or tea, relishing some solitude or the company of a good friend. Settle in, and let’s enjoy the season. Click on the link or the photo to get the full recipe, and the story behind it.

Apple Cranberry Cake

For brunch, with breakfast, or with that second cup of coffee, or even tea time, if that’s your thing. Not heavy, not conducive to large portions, and with the welcome tang of fresh cranberries.

Apple Pie Bars

The latest addition to my Fall lineup, this was a sure-fire hit with my neighbors, all of whom are willing taste testers, but also honest critics. Vanilla ice cream can’t hurt!

Cranberry Cornmeal Cake

Much like its Apple Cranberry Cake cousin, this fresh cranberry delight hits the spot almost any time of day. Dress it up with a dusting of powdered sugar for a more festive look.

Orange Cranberry Cheesecake

Don’t let the link to lemon/raspberry cheesecake fool you or turn you away. Substitute vanilla Oreos, substitute orange for the lemon, and then top with some fresh cranberry sauce (or the whole-berry canned variety), and Fall is in the air.

Pumpkin Cheesecake

A guaranteed crowd pleaser, you’ll capture all of the pumpkin spice flavor you could want, without searching for a coffee shop offering PSL. PSL? Pumpkin Spice Latte. No thanks, I’ll take cheesecake.

Rum Cake

A warm cake, redolent of hot buttered rum, but with the addition of roasted pecans on top. What’s not to like? What you drink with it is up to you, but it’s boozy in its own right. Not to mention it starts with cake mix and a box of pudding. Easy.

Orange Caraway Shortbread

Easy to make, easy to keep around, and an easy way to satisfy a craving for something sweet, but not too. Ramp it up by dressing it with a drop of Hershey’s chocolate syrup, or a dip in chocolate ganache, before sending it down the hatch.

Enjoy, try, and maybe find a new favorite. Better yet, share a favorite of your own. We’re all in the kitchen together!
